Inspections
PRE PURCHASE INSPECTION
For most people the purchase of their home is the single most expensive investment they will make. The Department of Housing and Urban Development recommends a home inspection prior to purchase because a home inspection gives the buyer more detailed information than an appraisal--information you need to make a wise decision. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority MSHDA feels it is so important that they will provide funds for the home inspection.
RHI inspections meet national industry standards with a comprehensive evaluation of Site/Grounds, Exterior, Garage, Roof, Structure, Attic, Crawlspace, Electrical, Heating/Cooling/Ventilation, Plumbing, Bathrooms, Kitchen, Laundry, Interior, etc.

SINGLE COMPONENT INSPECTIONS
If you are already a home owner and want a specific component of the house inspected, for example: Roof, Basement, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing or Insulation, RHI can give you an independent recommendation, not one based on trying to sell you a project or solicit work.
Many homes have electrical panels without the circuit breakers labeled. That is a hazard to you if you need to disable a specific circuit. I will map and label your circuits for your safety and piece of mind.

Home Energy Services
Pre/Post Work Blower Door Test
A blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed cracks and openings. The auditors may use a smoke pencil to detect air leaks. These tests determine the air infiltration rate of a building.
Blower doors consist of a frame and flexible panel that fit in a doorway, a variable-speed fan, a pressure gauge to measure the pressure differences inside and outside the home, and an airflow manometer and hoses for measuring airflow.
There are two types of blower doors: calibrated and uncalibrated. It is important that auditors use a calibrated door. This type of blower door has several gauges that measure the amount of air pulled out of the house by the fan. Uncalibrated blower doors can only locate leaks in homes. They provide no method for determining the overall tightness of a building. The calibrated blower door's data allow the auditor to quantify the amount of air leakage and the effectiveness of any air-sealing job.
Home Energy Survey
A Home Energy Survey is a detailed visual examination of an existing home to locate where and how energy is being lost; those systems in the home that are operating inefficiently; and establishing cost-effective measures that can be put in place to make the home more comfortable, affordable and energy efficient. Insulation, HVAC equipment, areas of air infiltration, appliances, lighting and widows are all inspected and a work scope for improvement is drafted in the report.
Home Energy Audit
A Home Energy Audit covers all the steps of the home energy survey with the addition of a full home pressurization diagnostics test using specialized equipment to measure air leaks and reveal hard to detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.
A Home Energy Audit is the most in-depth energy performance assessment of a home that you'll find. It consists of diagnostic testing using specialized equipment, such as a blower door test, duct leakage tester, and combustion analyzer to determine:
The amount and location of air leaks in the building envelope
The amount of leakage from HVAC distribution ducts
The effectiveness of insulation inside walls and ceilings
Any existing or potential combustion safety issues
